It has been more than 40 years since I retired from the Navy, and I’ve decided to record the events that have inhabited my memory. I was never the likes of Horatio Hornblower or John Paul Jones, so the stories I can tell are not great feats of daring do; but many of them are quirky and, perhaps, entertaining. The term Sea Story has a formal definition: “A Sea Story is a work of fiction or non-fiction set largely at sea” and a more apt informal definition “The difference between a fairy tale and a sea story: a fairy tale begins with ‘once upon a time’ and ends with ‘... and they lived happily ever after.’ The sea story begins with ‘this is no shit’ …”.
My stories are true to the best of my recollection, and that is no shit.
